#9 - Bill of Rights Project

Background: The ratification conventions in many of the states from 1787 to 1791 debated (in some cases angrily) the need for a Bill of Rights.  Some were withholding their votes until they saw proof that the people would have their rights protected FROM the government and its possible abuses of power.  Over the years, these rights have been tested on a number of issues.  Today, those issues (as well as new ones) are still in the forefront of our news.  These websites uncover only some of those issues, but they provide not only a wealth of knowledge but also the many perspectives needed to gain understanding.

Assignment
: Using the number of websites specified in the choices below, complete the three assignments below.

  1. Choose the websites above for your research.  Acting in the role of a reviewer, critique the sites and find ten areas of interest (facts).  Describe those ten areas in detail.  Each area could be a link, a fact, a picture, or something interactive.  Explain it while putting it (the area of interest) in the context of the site about rights.

  2. Using the sites you have chosen, act out the role of a participant in the issues discussed and explained in the sites, as if you were involved.  This can take the form of a dairy or journal or you can write a short fiction story based on the information you learn concerning 'rights' and your particular topic.  Complete one story or journal entry.

  3. Using the sites you have chosen, act out the role of an interviewer.  Ask three thoughtful and deep questions about the issues covered in each of the three sites.  Create the questions from your own personal curiosity concerning the issues covered and answer them to the best of your ability.

Evaluation: Successful completion of the following assignments will be measured by 1) how much you showed you learned (content) and 2) how your were able to apply it to each particular issue (understanding).  Each is worth 50 points.
