Background: America's history is a history of race relations.  Some of the most defining moments in our country's history were shaped by slavery, racism, segregation, discrimination, lynching, etc.  Now, the question is, "What is the future of race in America in the 21st century?"

Assignment: Using the sources above, have a discussion on the questions above.  Use facts, statistics, stories and more from these sites to support your positions.  Since this is a discussion, participation is vital.  Respond as many times as you can.  See where it goes...

The future of race in America is a good thing, I believe this because it is a change that is need in the U.S. As the country becomes more diverse, racism will diminish though I dont believe it will ever be completely gone, but I do believe that it will be a much different 50 years from now. Minorities will began getting more jobs that they would find very hard to get now, like in politics. We might be well on our way to see the first non-white President which would be huge in the political world.

The idea that people are genetically different based on what we consider race is an outdated, and ludicrous belief. There is no correlation with skin color and any other trait, weather it is genetic or visible. But racism still exists for two main reasons. Either people try to make another group feel less for their own personal gain, or they try to blame a whole ethnic group for their problems. Since this idea is so rooted in the foundation of our world, be cant just pretend it isnt there. But what we can do is work to accept that people are different, and embrace it. Yea, I might look different from the person next to me, but I also have a different personality and beliefs. We should take our differences as what they simply are, what makes us individuals. No better, no less, just different.

Race in America will change drastically in the future. Todays minorities will become the future majorities and todays white majorities will become the new minorities. There will be more and more biracial families and people will continue to mix cultures and ethnicities. what will result is one large cultural group. Soon everyone will be a little bit of every culture, at the rate of the current mixing of culture in America.

I believe the future of race will dominate the world. New races could or are being developed everyday. The mixture of cultures coming together to make a new race, I believe is in the making. Have you ever walked down the street and noticed a white or black person and in your mind you immediately put them in that catogory? well i have. but then its funny because the black woman was dominican and the white woman was cape-verdean! the mixture of cultures and ethnicity's dominate these traits. At the rate society is going there will be a little bit of every culture divided amongst each and every one of us.
