Background: Today, thousands of activists are travelling to Jena, LA to support the Jena 6.  This news story focuses on issues of authority, race, justice and civil rights.  It involves high school students.  Because we are learning this week how Americas slavery system began (and with it white racism against Africans), this story is important to us now. 

Directions: 1) Read the story from the following sites: Yahoo News, CNN News, and Wikipedia.  2) Answer the following questions: a. What do you know about the history of race relations in US History?  Give examples. b.  What can Americans learn about race relations from this story? c. What advice can you give to improve race relations in New Bedford.
