Here I have some evidence from each of the documents that help to prove the effectiveness of the Articles of Confederation.

Document A: Letter from the Rhode Island Assembly to Congress
1. The source shows the success of a major objective of the Articles, which was protection of the states. It also displayed the central governments inability to force policy down the throats of state legislature.

Document B/ Document C:
For these two documents it really was quite a struggle to find any proof of an effective government behind the text and statistics. Working within the confines of the documents themselves, I have yet to come up with something for these two. However, and as the packet points out, Document B has significance in that trade with non-British countries and territories thrived in the environment of a non-mercantilist system.

Document D: John Jays Instructions  
1. The document portrays the government as firm and yet mindful of the peoples protection from British intrusion. The British counter revolution never did occur, so that too would prove a success.

Document E: Western Lands Ceded by the States
1. The Articles conquered western expansion through the implementation of the Northwest Ordinances. The issue, and the Articles, united the states in a common cause, established a system of eventual statehood, and settled disputes peacefully.

Document A
They thought that this would be hardest on the commercial states, particularly Rhode Island. They didnt want unknown officers in their state and said it was against the constitution of their state. If Congress could collect money from the commerce of some states, they would break away from their constituents.


Document B
The market value of United States Exports to Great Britain starting in the year 1770 was high. It increased until 1775. After that year it started to decrease greatly and see-sawed between rising and falling.


Document C
Joseph Jones was speaking to George Washington about his army. They requests for him to give more money to the soliders was never replyed to. He was saying how Confress doesnt know the importance of others demands.


Document D
This document tells about how John Jay wants the British to remove their officers from the United States territories. He also talks about how he wants the restrictions of trade with the U.s to stop. He also wanted the debts to be payed that were spent on the war.


Document E
The articles were a success and disputes were settled peacefully. Slavery was abolished.


Document F
Jay was speaking again about the navigation rights on Mississippi. He says that spain wants to keep their people away from the American shores. He points out how the country was getting full and would need to use the river soon for transportation. The filling of the area would injure the states. He said that they would need to settle their arguements for a peace treaty for this to be able to happen. The treaty should be limited to around 30 years.


Document G
Jay is afraid that everyone is gong to become tyrants. He's afraid they will loose faith in their leaders and rebel. He is ready to promise the people anything to calm them down and get them back in order.


Document H
Lowndes though that adding to the Old Confederation would be better than adopting a New Confederation. He thought that improving the flaw is much better than building something new. He ment that adding a Bill Of Rights to the Constitution was better than making a new Constitution.
