Assignment #12: Women Unit

ASSIGNMENT #1

Source
: http://www.engineofsouls.com/mc-women.htm

Background
: History, as a study of the past, has often ignored the roles and accomplishments of women.  Many societies, in a male-dominated, patriarchal manner, limited the legal rights, the participation, and the opportunities for women.  Today, in many countries around the world, women play a profound role in politics, sports, the military, entertainment, and more.  In order to understand more concerning different women and women's issues, explore the websites below according to the assignment given.

Assignment: 1) Choose any two of the websites on the page provided above and research them. 2) For each of the websites chosen, choose one of the following options:

Acting in the role of a reviewer, critique the sites and find ten of the most important facts/details.  Describe them.  Each area could be a link, a fact, a picture, or something interactive.  Explain it while putting it (the area of interest) in the context of the site about women.

Act out the role of a participant in the issues discussed and explained in the sites, as if you were involved.  This can take the form of a dairy or journal or you can write a short fiction story based on the information you learn.

Act out the role of an interviewer.  Ask five thoughtful and deep questions about the issues covered in each of the five sites.  Create the questions from your own personal curiosity concerning the issues covered.

Imagining yourself as an author of children's books, after reviewing the information on the website below, write out a children's story that includes ten pieces of information about the site's topic.

Act out the role of a
Hollywood director or screen-writer.  Using the information from the sites below, write a summary of a movie that you would create based on the issue, event or person researched.  Who would play the lead roles?  What would the plot be?  How would it be resolved?

Evaluation: Students will receive 30 points for each of the websites reviewed.  Students will receive 20 points for a question, comment or suggestion posted to another student and 20 points for a reply to another students post. [100 total]

OR

ASSIGNMENT #2

Background: There are many issues in America and the world today that affect women.  Discussing them respectfully helps us learn about different perspectives and the nature of the issues themselves.  There are many different positions to take on each of these topics below.  Consider what yours will be and use the forum to share perspectives respectfully.

Assignment: Take a position on one of the following controversial statements: 1) Women should serve equally in the military, 2) Women make strong world leaders, 3) Laws should enforce equal pay for equal work, 4) Sexual violence should receive maximum prison sentences, or 5) Women should receive half of all positions in government, 6) The rights of women should be internationally enforced in all countries.

Evaluation: Students will receive 80 points when they explain their position and defend it with detailed evidence (not just opinions) found in their research.   Students will receive 10 points for a question, comment or suggestion to another student and 10 points for a reply to another students post.

SHOULD WOMEN SERVE EQUALY IN THE MILITARY?

I THINK THEY SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO SERVE IN THE MILITARY BUT PLAY BY ALL THE RULES. THE DRAFT FOR EXAMPLE MEN AND CHILDREN OVER A CERTAIN AGE MUST GO, BUT WOMEN ARE NOT UNDER THE SAME JUSTICE, SO THEY DO NOT HAVE TO GO. I THINK ITS UNFAIR THAT THEY CAN FREELY JOIN THE MILITARY BUT DONT HAVE TO GO IN THE CASE OF A DRAFT.

ALSO WOMEN ARE AT A DISS ADVANTEGE IN A COMBAT SITUATION THEY HAVE CERTAIN "NEEDS" THAT INABLE THEM TO STAY  IN A DICH OR A TRENCH FOR 3 MONTHS STRAIGHT. ALSO THE FACT THAT THEY ARE IN MORE DANGER THEN MEN IF THEY ARE CAPTURED IN BATTLE, THEY COULD BE RAPED, SOLD TO SLAVERY, ECT. ALSO THEY ARE NOT AS STRONG AS MEN IN A POINT BLANK STRUGLE SITUATION, NO MATTER HOW MUCH A WOMEN WORKS OUT IT DOES NOT MATTER.

SO REALY YES AND NO.hmm

There are many issues in America and the world today that affect women, to be specific, the idea that women make strong world leaders. In some ways this statement makes sense but to base a good world leader on their gender is overrated. Comparing gender to how well someone can achieve something is as pointless as comparing someones race for the same reason. Im not insinuating that women cant be in any occupations that follow leadership but men can have a great deal of impact and make just amount of difference that a woman can. In countries such as; Ireland, Denmark, New Zealand, Canada, India, and Argentina are just a fraction of many countries that have women as leaders. On the other hand, the U.S. has come to the realization that it might be good to have a woman as a leader but in the year 2007 while places that already had women as leaders for thousands of years. I honestly think that the U.S. shouldve made the change a long time ago.
