Folk music is important in cultural identity because its a way for the people to express themselves. They can tell stories of the past. It can be handed down from father to son. Its also passed own from generation to generation. They can also be stories of what happened to people. They also can be told to teach kids a lesson. Sometimes they tell of the gods. So folk lesson is great for identity cause it shows the individual of each culture.

Becouse most of them lost there home and is becoming american, they lose most of there cultual identiy. So we lose most of there individual identity trying to make everyone change there ways and coustoms for the one they chose is best. by the way we live we may try to make people change there ways.

External factors would be things such as friends, people you live around, what you wear, music you listen to, school you go to. All these are external factors that when you are near them and interact allitle of it starts to rub off on you... I guess you can say
Internal usually is things such as personally preference, what you like, you parents, family. These things are usually influenced by your self and the people who raised you and what not!

- Their demographics and statistics. If they are a mulitracial and multicultural population they're more likely to be proactive and adaptive to new things. If they are a suburban white community they would probably be exclusive and less likely to accept a minority race family or culture in their area.

My child's ethnic and cultural identity many factors will influence my child's ethnic and cultural identity over the years. Where s/he was born and raised will play a factor. The community s/he lives in will effect him. Another factor is the people around him or her, and the groups of people s/he hangs out with. His or her actions over the years will also help influence her ethnic and cultural identity.

American history has played several factors in our understanding of identity and community. You can go all the way back to the days when slavery was around, we're nobody believed that black people or women were equivalent to white men, some people still feel that way. And as time went on and the nation as a whole went through the civil rights movement. A lot of people realized that this nation is a country that is full of different people, but we are all the same in some ways, and we all deserve the same rights. Today the understanding of identity and community is very different from what it was 100 years ago

ESSENTIAL QUESTION How has American History influenced our understanding of identity and community?The United States of America is a country that is made entirely of immigrants. It is a melting pot that combines cultures from all around the world. By looking at American history, one can see that immigrants have been coming to America from the beginning. To this date, there have been four to five waves of millions of immigrants who have come to America, searching for a better life. During the late 1800s and early 1900s millions upon millions of immigrants fled Europe and Asia and sought refuge in the United States. They came to escape poverty, depression, famine, religious persecution, and political instability. They came from over 20 different countries. For many, these people are our ancestors and they are what makes America the melting pot that it is. While migrating, they took with them the culture, beliefs, and practices of their homelands. They have influenced are lives by passing cultural traditions and practices to us and our families. Upon arriving in America, immigrants from like countries, grouped together to form communities that made it easier to assimilate. Because of their unity, they were able to survive and thrive in their new homes. In some areas, these communities still exist. In the United States, everyone can identify themselves with the countries of their ancestors as well as there own.
A Quinceañera is one of the most important occasions in a girls life. Its the same thing as an American girls sweet sixteen, except its when she turns fifteen. It would mean so much to me if you came, because I want to share this special day with you.

American history from the beginning has had to develop communities and identity. The Indians were here first with their traditions and ways of life, and then Europeans brought theirs too. The two different cultures mixed and started the beginning of what America is about. The many presidents of the U.S. have made our society different from all others in the world. Now we have different cultures from all over the world that come to America, and we see that people have their own identity. Yet we live in the same communities. We understand that people are different because of the many people in history that have influenced our society today.

Some of the first communities formed in America were immigrants who came overseas and all settled together in the same area in order to persevere their cultural identity and family connections.These communities could easily be mistaken for communities back in their homelands if someone did not know what country they really were in.The purposes of these communities were to help everyone share the burden of living in a new country and forming a foothold for their children.Family and friends banned together in order to share housing, bills, and the moral support of living in a new land.Most communities would adjust to their new surroundings and learn the ways of American society, but while at the same time teaching everyone their culture side-by-side.So many children would learn to speak English, but at the same time their native tongue. Trough time however, after a few generations many people will break ties from their community and will want to explore the rest of the world and experience new things.Many people might see this as a problem because the culture will not be taught and will be lost forever.Many older generations feel that if their children are not surrounded by their culture as they would be in their community, they will automatically resent it.This fear of loosing culture to many is the same thing as loosing their family and loved ones, because its what makes them who they are.Communities can also be broken apart from natural disasters.An example would be from a huge storm like Hurricane Katrina.The storm whipped out thousands of homes and destroyed communities.These people were then re-located to safer environment and they lost contact with their family through the chaos, and now they have to start all over in new surroundings.Communities often are broken up by surrounding communities and through time they join together and form the common melting pot.Communities are not always necessarily broken apart, but joined and influence one another through time, this is what makes America so great; our many cultures.

American history has influenced the understanding of both identity and community because so many different people are a part of the american community now. Its 100% different from the way it was years ago and in time has been a hot spot for immigration from all over the world. Every day someone changes their identity from an italian to an italian american or mexican to a mexican american etc. Since american history has changed from a country of old slave owning men to a country welcome to all different cultures and ideas, our understanding of identity and community has changed and been influenced by it.

One for example is money; wealthy people want to live with people of their own status so they form small communities such as suburban neighborhoods. Immigrants usually immigrate to large cities so they form diverse neighborhoods. These are just a few examples of how communities are formed.

Depending on where you grow up, deaths of loved ones, moving into different communities play an enormous role in a persons identity. And how they deal with these events is what shapes who they are.
My childs ethnicity and cultural identity will be affected by where they are brought up and who they hangout with. The place that some one is brought up in greatly influences them with the culture all around them, and the laws they must obey. Also, the challenges that they face will also make heir identity.
