Reflections are writing assignments that basically ask you 1) what have you learned, 2) what does it mean, and 3) what should be done.We will refer to this more commonly as knowledge, understanding and action. Know:Remembering Information Learned- What specifically can you remember concerning the notes, the projects, the movies, the forum assignments, the cultures spotlighted and the issues discussed? Understand:FormingConnections & Conclusions - What does the information learned mean? How are these issues connected? What beliefs do you have concerning these issues, cultures, people & stories? Do:Making Changes in You & the World - What can and/or should you do with the information & understanding youve gained? How have you changed? How can you apply that change in your life or in the world? ASSIGNMENT: Often, at the end of each unit, youll be asked to recount what you learned, explain what it means and describe what can (or should) be done with that knowledge and understanding. Please do so for the unit that focused on the theme of identity.
know: well i learned alot about how to fight with no violence and win the battle, if it was like that these day we would have won alot but since most people take it to violence, i tought me about the olden days that i didnt know about and leaned more
Understanding: i got a pretty good understanding of what they where talking about the non violence and gundi
Action: to use the non violence to win people over, mabey at a college when something is worng and should be fixed
Knowledge: I remember that Indigenous people are unique and are very happy with the way they live, except for when others invade their land. I also learned that identity is what makes a person who they are, and you should stay true to your beliefs and cultures. I learned a lot about immigration and the laws that have to do with it.
Understanding: This information means that people are different, but they are also the same because they all are very religious and stick to their cultural backgrounds. I believe that if you learned things a certain way as you were growing up, you should keep it that way because your parents probably want you to keep the tradition going. You should be faithful to your culture.
Action: I should pass on this information to others because I believe it is very important for everyone to know. I think I have changed because I now realize how important culture is and that traditions should be kept alive and passed on, because thats what makes a person unique.
Knowledge:I learned how to act without violence and still make an effect on the out come of the war or battle. It seem more effective and understanding if you have nonviolence. Also, people are very religious and have very strong beliefs.
Understanding:I actually got to understand why Gandhi acted out in non violence. I understood the process of he what he had to go through just to try to make peace.
Action:The information and understanding I gained I can actually talk about it with other people. I changed to realize how other people felt or feel about their well being
I have learned a lot about the immigration system, and how America portrays and promotes itself to other countries as the "Land of Opportunity" and also complains about the amount of immigrants it recieves each year. I also learned that many people project the problem of over-population on immigrants - even though this is a world-wide statistic and our # of immigrants is decreasing.
I learned a lot about non-violent peaceful protests around the world, other than Gandhi's. I have also learned that even though someone may be interested in other cultures, it doesn't mean that they are open-minded or aware of other's situations. I enjoyed hearing the Hindu boy speak, I didn't emjoy the redundant questions. I did get to hear a different perspective on arranged-marriages that went beyond the basic concept of how they are made.

Where were you? I'll repeat the question...what took you so long?
know: I learned a lot about racism and how it effects people, a lot about immiagration and personal ecperiences, indeignous people how they live and there culture, also i learned that non-violence can do a lot more than actual fighting, just doing nothing is more powerful.
Understanding: No one likes to be discriminated on and that was taught in the "blue eye, brown eye" experment, People are different everywhere you go but that doesn't mean that they are wrong, bad, or inferior.
Action: I think I will pass this imformation on, I think I have changed because see how important culture is and I realised how powerful words really are.

KNOW: We have learned all about Ghandi's effort to help his people be free. He used nonviolent ways to help resist against a government that he felt did not support his people. He helped bring about a great change without shedding blood, which is a great accomplishment.
UNDERSTAND: This information about Ghandi helps us to understand that you can get things accomplished without using violence. So many people now use violence whenver they need to get something done. Violence should always be your last resort, but nowadays its people's first.
DO: We should start using some of Ghandi's nonviolent methods in places of War. Instead of invading countries such as Iraq and Palestine, we can use Ghandi's methods. This could end up saving a lot of innocent lives.
Know:Remembering Information Learned - I remember watching the movie whale rider and it was interesting because I have never seen a movie like that before Understand:FormingConnections & Conclusions - I learned a lot about different cultures and different rituals Do:Making Changes in You & the World - I can pass on what I have learned to others so that they can pass it on.
Know: I learned how some strikes or how actually rascism started to become a huge problem and how they fought back peacefully. A lot of the peaceful movements made a huge impact, but took a lot of thought, energy and motivation and a lot of time too to complete.
Understanding: I got a great understanding on who Ghandi was and what he accomplished through his lfetime.
Action: The actions of Gandhi, the black protesting era where they wanted freedom, and plenty more.
Know:I learned that non violence protests seem to have a bigger and better response rather than a violent approach. Understand:FormingConnections & Conclusions: I dont have any similar issues to the people in these stories, but they have similar stories to people in my community. I believe that a lot of these issues are connected. Do:Making Changes in You & the World - I understand what people can achieve using a passive attitude. Ill try to not get angry about things and think about the change that can occur by not responding negatively
Know:Remembering Information Learned- Racism, hatred, and war exist. It's a hard to accept.
Understand:FormingConnections & Conclusions - What I understand is that there ARE peaceful solutions out of the things above and it is up to the people to man up and accept that different colors, ideas, religions exist and we should all coexist on earth Do:Making Changes in You & the World - Maybe I should take things a bit more seriously.. that's about all I have really taken with me outside this class
i learned that issues can be resolved by using non violent motives. sometimes that approach works better than a violent approach. you should always try to use a nonviolent approach and then if that fails rebel! haha :] i cant relate to anyone in this story because i have an anger issue so i take approach things on a violent level most of the time. i try not to sometimes though. ive learned alot in this class about other peoples and religions but it hasnt changed or affected my views on certain peoples and religions. its nice to know how other people think and feel but im very stubborn and i never change my ideas, views, and ways of thinking.
All peoples are raised by different guardians. These guardians teach one to become someone. Good or bad. All people have one main goal in life. Survival. It may be socially or just primitive missions.
As members of this big family of Mankind, we should all do what is necessary to avoid civil unrest between our family. We must do what is necessary to avoid suffering and to survive as one.

Know: I have learned to look at things from others peoples perspectives sometimes. Also using nonviolence to help solve problems is a better alternative and is a more effective way of dealing with things
Understand: I now have a pretty good understanding about other peoples lives and how different they are from mine and many other peoples in America
Do: I think we should start using more non violent ways in terms of dealing with other countries and people how represent them.
