1. Chisholm supported many things. Womens' rights, worker's rights and the right's of minorities. She also supported trying to improve our innercities and pulling troops out of Vietnam
2. Her supported where ethically diverse and she also had the vote of most women's rights nuts. She inspired them because of her unwillingness to settle for the status quo (white/male president) pushed for rights of humans of all colors and genders.
3. Personally I think the media helped her. They gave her alot of attention. "No press is bad press eh?"
4. They didn't support her in the end because she was also for women's rights and plus they knew she couldn't win.
5. Technically yes anybody can become president.. is it going to happen any time soon? Who knows.
6. Hilary and Chisholm hold some similare views. Both are against the war their country is currently in (veitnam and iraq), both are for worker's rights, both support abortion and the biggest similarty is they are both women. Differences are big in that Chisholm main platform was being pro-women and pro-civil rights while hilary is just... there.
She wanted civil rights for black people and women, she also supported education for poor and predominately black neighborhoods. She supported these issues not only because she understood the the difficulties that many black women felt, but because she actually wanted to make a difference for everyone.
Her supporters were people in favor for women's right and equality. They followed Chisholm because she responded positively to these people and their needs, she didn't dumb things down for them, and in some cases she even risked she life. This made her inspirational because she knew that she was disliked by many but it didn't change her approach toward trying to achieve what she and her followers wanted. She had to face slander and almost being murdered 3 times in order to became a candidate. I think it can go both ways, it helped spread her message and it got some people to agree and follow her, but on the other hand, it could have made her look like she was reaching too high, she sounded a little annoying at time, and it did feel like she was just dragging on and on. They didn't support her because they knew she wouldn't win. I cant really remember and thing else about them. I do think that anyone cant become president. Women can, i just think that is women want to become president, they could like try a little harder, apparently Clinton has tried the hardest to get where she is now. eh. they both want women's rights. I honestly don't keep track, so im going to say they both want rights, they're different because i feel like chisholm is a little bit more sincere and conscience about struggles that people face. I guess so, but them i think about it and i realize that this election is trying to achieve the same stuff that is was 36 years ago.

Chisholm had more of a hard time because she was a black woman, and 36 years ago, people didnt think she could do it.Hillary on the other hand, has a lot more supporters and things have changed. Women are becoming more aware and outspoken of these things.
What issues did Chisholm support? Why did she support them? She supported women's rights and minorities rights because she was a black woman and she thought that everyone should have equal opportunities and rights. Who were her supporters? Why did they follow Chisholm? How did she inspire them? They didn't think that a black person who was also a woman could handle being president, and they thought that other countries may think of the US as weak. Can anyone become president? Can a woman become president? How? Only people born in the US can become president, anyone under that caegory can run and possibly be president, but alot of people are still stuck in the dark ages and unfortunatly aren't ready for minorites presidents. Compare Shirley Chisholms (1972) and Hillary Clintons (2008) presidential campaigns. What are the similarities and differences?Has America changed in 36 years? How or how has it not? People seem more suppotive of Hillary probably because now women are viewed as being stronge, but there is still people who refuse to vote for a woman, no matter how great she could be.
1. Chisholm supported racial and gender equality because it was something our country was struggling to deal with. It also represented the obstacles Chisholm faced as a black woman.
2. Chisholms supporters were both blacks and women because she represented a political movement that worked towards breaking down the barriers that both groups faced.
3. Chisholm had a lot of obstacles to overcome in order to become a Congresswoman and a Presidential candidate. The United States was struggling to enforce racial equality, making it difficult for minorities to become elected into political office. Chisholm was not only a minority but also a woman. Women at the time were (and in some places, still are) treated as inferior to men. As a result, Chisholms obstacles overlapped and compounded each other.
4. The media both hurt and helped Chisholm. It gave the press Chisholm needed to bring attention to the issues she considered important and give the resolution to those issues momentum. Unfortunately, it also highlighted her simply on the base of being black AND a woman. This made it difficult for her to be seen in the media without ulterior motive to secure a particular angle of her character and personality. Basically, it sensationalized her.
5. In the end, the Congressional Black Caucus didnt support her because they knew she didnt have enough support to have a chance at winning the election.
6. Unfortunately, not just anyone can become President. Elections take a lot of money, so it is usually someone who is independently wealthy who becomes President. I suppose a woman could become President, but its difficult to say because theres still a lot of prejudice. In order for a woman to win the Presidential election, she would need to refrain from supporting radical opinions and staying away from controversy. If she cant do that, its possible she might make people who would otherwise support her turn away in addition to the people who would not vote for her simply because shes a woman.
7. Shirley Chisholm and Hillary Clinton are both very similar and very different. Both argue for increased funding of education, better healthcare and other social services, and reduced military spending. However, Hillary Clintons campaign does not need to fight the civil rights problems (at least as strongly as) that Chisholm faced. Although there is still prejudice against women in this country, weve come a long way since the 1970s. The belief that a woman cannot lead a country effectively has been shattered with the elections of female Prime Ministers and Presidents in other countries.

Hilary has her husband on her back. Especially the favors Bill did too... she really is getting somewhere by making friends Bill had too, and getting involved. Fundraisers and the like, she became a rising star woman who wanted to be a presidential candidate with a lot of favors in hand. She's getting pretty far...
